This mother is the epitome of judgmental with -no offence to her son-a capital J. She damns everyone and demeans every place she can, shredding their well-meaning sympathy for her plight, and that of her son, mocking thier places and thier customs as if she is so far superior to them and their small villages and in particular thier wish that the creator will show her and J his favor and protection. The people, who cannot change your situations, do what they can to show compassion and empathy….. while she in her oh-woe- is- me angst repays them with sotto voiced curses behind their backs.

Here's a reminder to her: You are hardly the only mother who cares for or has cared for a child with disability, chronic medical or mental conditions, or worse… a child with terminal illness. Many of us have been in those tragic situations, doing the best we can to blunt the pain and/or make the conditions disappear-which of course they do/did not. We struggled -or struggle-to make sense of it all and asked Why Me, why him/her ? So here's my advice Ms. Columbia University employee, choose your own path but do not diss others who choose different paths and who have different customs. Accept the love offered to you and J with grace and gratitude. And do find help for your passive-aggressiveness. It is not a pretty or helpful stance.

Far better one blessing than a thousand curses.
