The biggest challenge today to any warehouse owner is the availability of space to accommodate an increase in the flow of inventory. The profit potential of any warehouse largely depends on the extent to which the warehouse can manage the goods storage. Warehouse owners are forever in search of ways to increase the storage capacity of their warehouse. This is where the use of racks becomes necessary and now there are many types of racks available in the market.

Among the various racks available, the pallet racks are one of the most widely used racks. This is due to the fact that pallet racks offer a diversity of choice to the warehouse owners in terms of various forms in which they are available. Moreover, the use of pallet racks streamlines the day-to-day business procedures and also maximizes productivity. You can get more out of your storage space by using various types of pallet racks as per your requirement. There are many advantages of using different types of pallet racks. Let us discuss about it.

Wide aisle racking

The wide aisle pallet racking uses large shelving units that hold a single pallet or crate and also has large aisles around the units which can be easily accessed by forklifts. The biggest advantage of using wide aisle racking is that it allows quick access to the goods by the forklifts as there is an abundance of space around the racks and movement is never blocked. This type of pallet racks is best suitable for warehouses that deal with a number of different types of goods. However, you will need a standard counterbalance forklift that is fitted with special navigational systems which will help the operator to find the designated pallet.

Double deep racking

The double deep racking pallet system allows crates and pallets to be stacked two deep on shelving units. Moreover, warehouses, where double deep stacking racks are used, have an added advantage of using normal counterbalance forklift. But these forklifts have to use extended forks to reach the materials stored in the back of the shelving units. The advantage of using double deep racking is the amount of materials that can be stored in a specific area is increased. However, the speed at which you can access the goods is decreased considerably. The double deep racking system is widely used in warehouses where all the pallets are similar and the content of the crates at the front and the back of the storage is same.

High shell racking

The high shelf racking is popular in warehouses where there is space constraint. As the design of the warehouse doesn’t offer any additional space for increasing the storage area to the warehouse owner. They prefer using high shell pallet racks to create one of the most efficient storage systems in a warehouse. However, you need to use specially designed forklift trucks to operate in this type of racking. Furthermore, these forklifts should have telescopic arms to reach the upper levels of the storage. This type of pallet rack is used for storing factory parts used in manufacturing.

Drive in racking

The drive in pallet racking is mainly used in cold storage warehouses. In this type of pallet racking system, there are special runners which help in storing the crates deep within the unit. The aisles in the ends of the racks allow the forklift trucks to move all the way to the end of the racks to place the materials on a first in, last out procedure. Moreover, there is also a drive through racking system which operates on a similar principle but here the stored materials can be taken out from both the ends of the racks.

Push back racking

The push back pallet racking is quite similar to the drive in racking system. However, here the forklift truck is not required to drive into the unit as the presence of a roller system allows the goods to be stored deep within the unit. The advantage offered by this type of racking system is quite similar to that of drive in racking. Furthermore, this type of racking can be highly useful for warehouses where the goods stored in a single lane needs to be placed on a single delivery truck.

Finally

If your warehouse deals with different types of goods, then you can design the warehouse using these types of racks. This will help you in managing your warehouse efficiently in addition to increasing the storage capacity of your warehouse.
