My Honest Review of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
Kuch Hota Hai was crude. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is rich,’ said essayist chief Karan Johar in regards to K3G, his second film.
He was dead right. K3G is unquestionably rich.
Rich in throwing. Rich in look and feel. Rich in ensembles, sets and areas.
Rich in sheen, clean and feelings (read tears). Rich in the sum spent (roughly Rs 400 million).
Rich in imperfections. In mush. In ‘NRI-satisfying’ pseudo patriotism. In the absence of freshness in the script, screenplay, discoursed and matching. In whatever!
In any case, before we get into all that, first things first.
The characters:
K3G The Raichand family: Strict specialist Yashovardhan (Amitabh Bachchan), his agreeable, adoring spouse Nandini (Jaya Bachchan), embraced child Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), more youthful child Rohan (Hrithik Roshan) and two grandmas (Sushma Seth and Achla Sachdev).
A white collar class cleaning specialist for the children (Farida Jalal), her neighbor (Alok Nath), his girls Anjali (Kajol) and Pooja (grows up to be Kareena post-interim).
Finally there is Naina (Rani Mukherji), girl of Yashovardhan’s companion.
The storyline:
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham movie dialogues were the best among the Karan Johar movies. A can’t be-more joyful and-wealthier family has everything taking the plunge. The father has chosen Naina as senior girl in-law.
Rahul does not know about his dad’s yearning or that Naina adores him frantically. He falls for the lower-white collar class, chirpy and boisterous Anjali, weds her and brings her home, against the desires of his dad.
Father can’t tolerate this and breaks his own run of not talking about his child’s embraced status. Rahul can’t hold up under his dad advising him that he doesn’t have “Raichand” blood in him.
He leaves home with spouse Anjali.
Rohan, who happens to be in all inclusive school, is careless in regards to this. He takes in reality ten years after the fact and guarantees to rejoin the family.
Rohan goes looking for his sibling who has, in the in the interim, moved to London.
At this point, Anjali’s more youthful sister Pooja otherwise known as Poo has additionally grown up to be a high-on-state of mind, western magnificence.
Rohan collaborates with Pooja and movements into the Rahul Raichand home without the family knowing his actual personality. He discovers despite everything they cherish their folks, gradually uncovers his own character and persuades them to return.Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan in K3G
Back in India, Rohan goes up against his dad and makes him understand that the family has been isolated on account of his pomposity. A couple of scenes later, Yashovardhan acknowledges his mix-up and apologizes to his children, making ready for a cheerful consummation.
The throwing:
Amitabh inverse Jaya (after various hit movies like Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Mili, Sholay and Silsila), following 16 years and interestingly as old guardians. Awesome!
Shah Rukh and Kajol (most likely the last time as a celluloid combine after triumphs like Baazigar, Karan Arjun, DDLJ and KKHH). Endurable.
Rani as the third point of a Shah Rukh-Kajol cherish triangle (KKHH)? Methinks too early for sentimentality.
Hrithik-Kareena (a new blend post the famously forgettable Yaadein to recall). No extraordinary shakes.
Amitabh as the strict and self-important senior (Mohabbatein, Ek Rishta), who apologizes to the youthful saint toward the end. Redundant and unsurprising.
Analysts won’t not process:
* Amitabh singing Aati Kya Khandala (note, Ghulam discharged in 1998) for Jaya, with Rani looking on interested, at his birthday party. Just the gathering is a piece of a ‘Diwali 10 years back’ flashback scene.
* In a similar flashback, the youthful Shah Rukh and a youngster artiste taste from Coke and Pepsi jars in Chandni Chowk. I used to think the soda monsters presented jars in India just as of late.
* Ditto to the hello there tech phones in the flashback.
Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor * The five-finger right hand of the child playing junior Rohan, is obviously unmistakable in the principal half of the film. Similarly obvious is the six-finger right-hand of the adult Rohan (Hrithik Roshan). The executive could undoubtedly have solicited one from the two Rohans to shroud his correct thumb (like Hrithik did in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai).
One could continue forever. The film is that immaculate.
