Amitabh Gupta (born 18th June, 1969) is an IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre. He worked for the state’s home department as the principal secretary. He currently serves as an agency executive in Pune Police Department.

Early Life & Education

IPS Amitabh Gupta born on 18th June 1969. His home town is located in UP. after completing B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from I.I.T. Kanpur (1986–1990) with distinction, Amitabh Gupta was selected for I.P.S. in 1992 in Maharashtra Cadre. He completed his training at N.P.A., Hyderabad. He completed the Master’s degree in Police Management from Osmania University.

Career

After completing his training, he was posted as the A.S.P. in Bhandara district in Nov. 1995, which was naxal affected. He led several operations in the jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of 8 Dalam Leaders & wiping out the existence of two Dalams. Seeing excellent performance in his duty, he was promoted as SUPDT of Police, Gadchiroli District. It was a highly naxal infested area. He successfully tackled the naxal problem during his stint. The local bodies’ election there was conducted peacefully in 1997 with a record percentage of 76% polling despite a call of boycott and bandh given by naxals. To bring tribals into the mainstream, he organized 60 various Mass Contact Programmes. Because of his exemplary performance during these two postings in naxal affected areas, he was awarded the Special Service Medal in 2001 by the Govt. of Maharashtra. He was awarded Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak by the Union Government in the year 2007.

After completing successful tenures as Supdt of Police for four districts, he was posted in Mumbai City as D.C.P. ,Crime Branch to look after the Preventive-Detention and Economic Offences Wing, in 2003. He had cleared out all of the old cases that had been outstanding. He had also held training courses for all Mumbai City Police Officers. This resulted in a significant rise in Preventive Detection/Measures. He was also the coordinator to the State Assembly & his meticulous work was appreciated by the Home Minister.

In 2004, he was appointed as D.C.P. for the most sensitive areas. e.g. Bandra, Juhu, Santacruz etc. He took utmost efforts to control crime-and-criminals, anti-social elements, under-world and organized crimes. He handled the 2005 flood scenario very deftly for 8 continuous days, without a break, he supervised rescue and relief operations.

On 9th July, 2006, Serial Train Blasts took place in Mumbai and he was immediately appointed in the Anti-Terror Squad. He built one of the most modern firing ranges in India at Group VIII.

Achievements

Till date, IPS Amitabh Gupta has received more than 70 appreciations, along with two Medals mentioned earlier for exemplary performance in naxal area.
