The only physical remnant of the old Penn Station is a single staircase up from one of the platforms which still has the original wrought ironwork and polished brass balustrade.

Thank you for both your essays, very moving. And beautifully written. I’m 10 years younger, mine was a different NY, the 60s-80s, but no less vital and pungent. So interesting to find out about that staircase, I’m going to go take a look at it the next time I’m in NYC. [and where roughly IS that staircase?]
