Are you a genius?

Most people will instinctively answer no to this question.

The assumption we often make with “genius” is that it is personal and originates from the brain of the person exhibiting the genius.

So when we think of geniuses such as Einstein, Motzart or Da Vinci, we imagine them as the source of the genius.

But is this true?

The alternative is that they are not the source of the genius, that the genius lies outside of them (and simultaneously within) and somehow they were able to tap into it.

This corresponds to many spiritual philosophies where the creative intelligence behind all of creation (most often called God) is considered to be omnipresent i.e. present everywhere at all times.

This is a very different view of genius with important implications. If genius is present everywhere as opposed to being localized within the brains of a chosen few, then in theory it should be available to everyone.

This idea can be difficult to reconcile with the world we live in. After all most of the people we know (including ourselves) exhibit a fairly consistent level of intelligence. The guy next door doesn’t suddenly solve the mysteries of the universe, or at least so it seems.

This suggests that even if genius is impersonal, most of us don’t know how to increase our ability to harness it.

Its also worth noting here that genius is not simply limited to intellectual genius. Whilst our society often values intellectual intelligence (IQ) the highest, in reality emotional intelligence (EQ) or spiritual intelligence (SQ) are often more important factors in how well an individual performs in and enjoys life.

So rather than just thinking about genius as mind boggling feats of intellect, for the context of this article I am really referring to the highest level expression of your own unique talents and gifts. This may include intellectual expression or high level achievements in any field but can equally include acts that we don’t associate with genius such as gracefully traversing complex emotional issues.

Assuming for now that the principle of impersonal genius (i.e. it is everywhere including within us) is real, how do we access it?

Meditation is a great vehicle for this process of self discovery and awakening.

There are many systems of meditation and they all have their unique strengths and benefits. Mindfulness meditation is currently the system that is most in fashion, but the point to note is that in the same way that different forms of exercise produce very different effects, so it is with meditation.

My experience is that the quickest and most natural way to harmonize with Universal Intelligence is through a meditation that is completely effortless. My favorite is Vibrant Celestial Meditation (or VCM). The principle is that you allow Universal Intelligence to actually conduct the meditation for you and you simply “surrender” to it.

When this happens, inspiration flows naturally to and through you and you automatically receive whatever you most need at any given point of time. This type of meditation is very simple to do, but also very powerful.

As you practice this type of meditation consistently, you will notice that your own unique brand of genius begins to awaken more and more. Talents or attributes that were previously dormant or unexplored, spring to life naturally and begin to express themselves through you. Surprisingly this happens, without any apparent effort on your part.

Becoming your true natural self with your own unique expression of Universal Genius, is an epic journey that transcends the grind of everyday life. It allows you to experience life with greater awareness and appreciation, less stress and a deeper and more sustainable happiness.
