How AI is helping Bioinformaticians to help humans survive
Bioinformatics is a field that combines the use of computer science, mathematics, and engineering to analyze and interpret biological data, such as DNA and protein sequences, and genetic information. And a Bioinformatician is a scientist who understands the underlying “mechanics” of bioinformatics or, more realistically, an aspect of bioinformatics (genomics, protein structure predictions, phylogenetic models, etc.). Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important in Bioinformatics as the amount of biological data being generated continues to grow at an exponential rate.
“Bioinformatics is becoming an indispensable tool in the quest to understand the complexities of biological systems and to harness that understanding for the betterment of human health and the environment”
— Dr. Vesteinn Thorsson, Principal Scientist, Genentech Research and Early Development.
All of us know how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the whole world and everyone just realized the value of life. But do you realize that in order to help doctors, nurses, and other medical volunteers around the globe to help humans survive, how AI and Bioinformatics played a vital and very indispensable role?
