The opposition in parliament has opposed a recent contract signed between government and an Italian investor that they say introduces a monopoly over the coffee subsector.

This after reports that finance Minister Matia Kasaija signed an agreement with a company known as Uganda Vinci Coffee Company Limited owned by an Italian Investor known as Enrica Pinneti who is also behind the controversial Lubowa Specialized hospital project . according to the opposition the agreement gives a ten year tax grace period to the company and other subsidies including free land, and free connection to utilities like water and electricity

During a media briefing at parliament shadow minister in charge of agriculture abed Bwanika said the agreement is illegal since it seeks to closeout Ugandans who earn from the sub sector

The opposition has resolved to petition court over the matter and also mobilize Ugandans in coffee producing areas to oppose the agreement.
