Ashdown Forest, an ancient place in southern England, historically used as the hunting grounds for King Henry VIII (the one famous for killing his wives), but nowadays more recognizable by a certain bear…

Yes, it’s Winnie the pooh’s 100 Aker Woods! A forest forever immortalised by the words of A.A Milne, and a MUST go place for anyone fond of the books/movies.

You see, Milne lived in a village near the forest with his wife and son, Christopher Robin, and he was inspired by his son's adventures playing in the woods to write all the books. Indeed, especially for someone who read the original books, it is a sweet sensation to walk amongst the trees, as Milne’s description is incredibly accurate. Each of Winnie's adventures is usually placed on a specific part of the forest, which touristic maps can show you, so a whole afternoon can be spent hiking through the woods on the trail of these characters.

Even for those who aren’t especially fond of Milne’s work, the forest is huge and very safe, it’s an ideal place to spend with the family, especially with young kids and dogs! And in winter the snow covers the forest just enough so you can make snow angels and throw snowballs.

Lastly, if you do go there, I highly recommend to go the rock where Milne and Christopher Robin used to sit and write, as is a beautiful view, plus you feel connected to the story and the history of the place.
