Just like any Gen-Z ever, I really love curating Spotify playlists. To make it more drama, doing so gives me the feeling of breakthrough — it’s the same vibes as when French society ended the Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette regime to yell liberté, égalité, fraternité out loud.

But, I never had a moment to really talk about it. None of my friends talk about it in depth — something that I’ve just realized just a couple of minutes ago. However, now I’m in the mood of writing and talking about this “future’s-nowadays-relic”. Bear with me to cruise down my Spotify library filled with your-average-song-everyone-knows.

For the start a.k.a. the first part of this series, I’m going with the very iconic “chapter/phase/era” of my playlist — the ones with randomized capital letters in each word. Bring it on!

bLaCk rED

Let’s break down the title itself, bLaCk rED. Actually, it means nothing besides I thought that black and red look good to each other in color. When I made this playlist around the end of 2018, I fancied those two colors more than anything! (Well, I still do fancy red, though. You can easily find my wardrobe filled with red clothes) These colors were truly representing me in some ways. By that, I wanted to give my personal touch of color to my playlist.

To make it align with the title, I put in the songs that give me the feelings of walking below the city’s light at the midnight. Personally, this one playlist have its own attachment to me. Whenever I blast this playlist off, I can feel the nostalgia of early highschool days when I liked to jump from one music event to another with my friends. The spirit and its energy, the moment of going back home late, the coldness of sweat, the sore throat in next morning — what a great weekend to spend.

3 things that represent this playlist: boldness, convenience store, negative film.

BuTTerfLiEs

Moving from the “trying-to-be-cool” kind of playlist, I want to present you the “oh-well-this-is-basic-but-not-so” kind of playlist of mine. I chose butterflies as a symbolism of beautiful life. You can also see it from the cover picture: blue skies, buildings covered with sunlight, breeze of winter’s warmth.

What I love the most about this playlist besides its perfect random-capitalized alphabet and cover picture is the “intro”. The four songs (Something New, Welcome to, Vanilla, Villa) arranged in order perfectly (you’ll never understand how brilliant it is unless you’re listening to those four in order). For the songs themselves, I added those that can make me feel good. For my personal experience on listening to this playlist, I feel just like that main character in upcoming of age movies while listening to it inside an afternoon-train — looking outside the window while singing alone.

3 things that represent this playlist: light, sunshine, outdoor.

eScAPe RoOM

The last one for this part goes to “your-not-so-like-others-typa-songs” kind of playlist. The title itself was a metaphor for the act of escapism from reality — sounds just like that guy in school that likes to talk about “the downfall of society”, but that’s the point anyway.

I still remember the moment I went through while I worked on this playlist the first time: I was in love. And to make it clear, the terms went with the fact that it was just me who liked someone (admitting this embarrassing story as to explain why the first-half of the playlist contained with some sort of love songs). The 64 songs for this playlist are mostly filled with indies. Even though now I see indie as a phase that I’m out of and regret (yes I’m admitting another embarrassing facts about me), this one playlist stays in my page since all these songs that still last remain worthy (a lot are superb, though) — some of many great songs I found on the internet.

3 things that represent this playlist: bed, in-room, contemplation.
