Breaking Down Every Spotify Playlist I Made (Part 2)

Bits of Norah Jones’ Wintertime lyrics

I’m just like the other girl. By that means, I watched Barbie every weekend as a little girl! My top of the favorites were Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses and Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. They really got me singing and dancing— and I really mean it. I can unconsciously dance and sing to some random-impromptu lyrics popping up in my head when I’m all alone (or when I’m with my closests).

To portray and deepen that scene, I’m going to explain it through another playlist of mine. This part will break down the series of “My Life as a Movie”. (You can easily notice it with [//] symbol as their trademark)

//blissful time to be alive

I still remember when this playlist were made. It was at the end of 2020, the times when I were transitioning between my highschool days to university-application days. I was frustrated with that change, but gladly I went to the beach! Then I began to see for some songs that gives me the feeling of calmness as if I were on the beach. End of story, now it remains as my one-call-away companion — it’s definitely the main original soundtrack of my life.

Oh, about the title… you can interpret it in a literal way. It reflects the state of bliss in life. I found that life was confusing and wavering, though on the other hand, I also found it pleasing. I can’t really explain it in a comprehensive word but this playlist describes it well, especially for a part where I put Sunset Rollercoaster’s music in order. All in all, this one’s having its own intimacy to me. Or in the other words, we radiate in the same frequency.

3 things that represent this playlist: stillness, wander, fulfilment.

//the fall of snowflakes

Nothing much to say, you can directly get the point of meaning by just looking at its title, cover picture, caption, and songs. It’s tender, soft, and fragile — a perfect saying to acclaim that it’s a very personal playlist to me. (So let it be my own comfort place, please. You can hear it but you can’t listen to it!)

I like to play it at the midnight, when I still need to fight for my life by studying whatever a.k.a. finishing my silly little assignments. The metaphor sounds like this: if I were winter, then the playlist would be a hot cup of cocoa. It always gives me the comfort whenever I need. Now, change the metaphor again, let’s say this one’s a nation. And for this nation, its natives are folklore. However, all people are living in peace, they’re forming a beautiful rhythm.

3 things that represent this playlist: heartbreak, midnight, vulnerability.

//a graceful existence

Have you ever experienced something close to Jesse and Céline from Before Sunrise? It’s okay, me neither. Even though I haven’t met my Jesse yet, I have this one playlist that can make me feel as if I’m Céline! (re: a Parisian girl who likes to talk, dance, walk, and also… a romantics)

This playlist might not be my most-played, but I can say that this one’s the greatest of all that sits in my Spotify library. In the other words, I’d say it’s lavish. It has that magic that can bring me to the world where I own a fancy pink poodle that you might usually see in old Disney’s movie, where I’m out in somewhere-France at night just to have a fresh air, and even where I’m at the top of the Eiffel Tower waiting to be proposed — all just in the moment. And if it’s not because of its curated songs, I don’t know what is. English-Chinese version of Bengawan Solo, FKJ and ((( O )))’s Ylang Ylang, Laufey, I Wish You Love by Ann Sally — all are just chef’s kiss. It’s a perfection (I can’t even talk about anything else).

3 things that represent this playlist: pavement, river, wind.
