I actually agree with most of your points.
Actually I was not trying to imply that the bad UX was accidental, I know that it is on purpose based on the short term sales numbers and I even mention it in my article.
What I do think is that they are giving up bigger profits long term (for example I was a regular customer and they lost me for an extra one off 16 dollars, 20 percent of the hidden fee) from creating user experiences SO negative that I go out of my way to avoid them, even if it is inpractical.
And it is definitely not the way to create the 1000 true fans for a new startup.
That was my main point although the article might have been a bit long winded and complainy...
