There are n number of words you can use to describe Sony’s latest earbuds, the Sony WF-XB700 like you can say durable, long-lasting battery, powerful, pocket friendly.

The foremost reason to buy this Sony WF-XB700 Wireless earbuds is their worth for the price you pay.

If you think they may not look like much, but at $130, the Sony WF-XB700 comes with a wide range of features that overweight its price. If you tend to compromise with some of the features that its big brother WF -1000XM3 has, then this set of Sony’s wireless earbuds is a blessing to you.

Sony WF-XB700 Review: In the box

These Sony WF-XB700 comes with the standard packaging and items that we expect from earbuds. It comes with a charging case with the buds themselves inside, a USB -C charging cable, extra ear tips, and documentation that includes a warranty card and user manual.

The chances are that you don’t even need to refer user manual while connecting these Sony WF-XB700 wireless earbuds for the first time with the mobile handset. Out of the three set of ear tips provided, you can opt for the one you are comfortable with. Most likely the chances are the tips attached with the earbuds fit your ears well from the get-go.

Sony WF-XB700 comes with Bluetooth 5.0 technology like most now-a-days. You may not likely face connection issues as per my experience with them. As far as concerned with the range connectivity I didn’t have to deal with any noticeable issues when moving around my house.

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Design

I am a little bit disagreed with Sony WF-XB700’s design. To be very frank at first glance they don’t seem to be capable but they have functional construction. The Sony WF-XB700 comes with a tri-hold structure so that earbuds hold properly on making contact with three different points on the ear and you are able to enjoy the sound at its best.

At the same time, the structure of these wireless buds is a little bit problematic which can be a negative word to say a con but we can describe them as ‘layered’ with a pronounced footprint that extends well outside the ear.

It comes with two buttons each on both sides and is responsive at the same time, and the charging case isn’t flashy. In comparison to the other buds, the case of these Sony WF-XB700 is much deeper so as to accommodate the buds comfortably.

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Features

  • IPX4 water-resistance rating.
  • Voice assistant integration.

If we go little back in the time then we would have expected these features in a higher range earphone but with the advancement of technology, now such features are available in Sony WF-XB700 for the masses.

These bulky wireless bud’s features worked properly. A full charge can run through an entire workday without any worry. The earbud’s case comes with only a single supplementary charge which can be less than an ideal backup.

It wouldn’t let you down with its sweat-proof feature with an IPX4 rating which is claimed by the brand. Its voice assistant although not as efficient as Amazon’s Echo Buds or Google’s Pixel Buds2 but still worked well when using the right bud button. One feature that I wish it could have is “automatic pause” on taking either bud out of the ear since we are used to listening to both the buds.

Sony WF-XB700 Review: Audio Quality

Considering the price range under which it comes, you will be quite very much happy to use these Sony WF-XB700 earbuds in terms of sound quality unless you are looking for an extremely superb sound like Sony’s flagship WF-1000 XM3.

Also to make them sound more energetic, it comes with extra bass where the music rounds up to your head and makes you fall in love with them. This Budget-friendly wireless earbud WF-XB700 has plenty to offer but stops short of sounding bloated. For the people who do streaming on Spotify on a regular basis, these buds would be a great compliment to their listening experience.

At the same time it comes with its share of cons like the frequency range takes a back seat and having lack of audio codecs like apt X, it would leave Professional audio listeners looking for something different and also for reference level audio seekers, these won’t be the option.

Another con that you would have to bear with is not having the Active noise cancellation technology with these Sony WF-XB700. Call Quality is awesome, adding to what you would consider above average sound considering the price range.

Any better alternatives?

Amazon’s Echo Buds come with active noise cancellation at the cost of reduced battery life.

If you are deep in pockets, then Apple Airpods or Google Pixel Buds 2 would have been a better option although expensive.

Our Take keeping in account above-mentioned factors

Keeping in mind the price at which it is listed in the markets, Sony’s WF — XB700 is a “Value for money” decision. Its pros outweigh much more than its share of cons and in this world, none of the things can satisfy you to the fullest despite how much you get.
