Gokarna, where time stands still

A pointer on why you would want to visit Gokarna, India.

I recently read a post on thrillophilia titled 50 places to visit in India before you turn 30 and it was a pretty interesting list of places & Gokarna is one of them.

The title in the link kind of says it all it has to about Gokarna, “Go to Gokarna and Do Nothing”. I could not agree more about it. I have been visiting Gokarna every year since the past 4 years & literally done nothing, but the thing I like the most is how things have never changed. If you have visited Goa and you like it, then I would always recommend you to go to Gokarna. Its a much toned down version of Goa without the parties & the glamour. Gokarna has 4 beaches which are merely 20 to 40 minutes walk away from each other.

The best thing about the beaches in Gokarna are that they get remote & less populated as you head south. Amongst the four, only “Om” beach is accessible by road and “Kudle”, “Half-Moon” & “Paradise” beaches are accessible only by foot which mean that only a few people actually end up reaching there so it is pretty secluded & peaceful. The right place for a day just with “your thoughts” I would say.

The best time of the year to visit Gokarna would be from November to March & avoid going there during the Monsoon(June to Mid-October) because the beach gets pretty dirty because of the rains but if you like the monsoon, thats a different experience altogether.

I will not add a lot of photos or travel guides, since that is pretty well documented on Wikitravel, but on a final note, whenever I descend that hill to reach Kudle Beach, I always feel Gokarna just sits there waiting for the faithful to come & those who go once always return back.
