Eve of Women’s History Month

Today marks the eve of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, a global day celebrated annually on March 8th to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Vanessa Camacaro, a talented artist and entrepreneur who has made a name for herself in the Web3 technology industry. As the founder of Women in Tech Showcase, Vanessa has created a platform for women to come together and showcase their talent and skills in this unique Spatial.io digital community event. Her work is an inspiration to many, including myself, as women navigate their way through this innovative and ever-changing industry.

In this interview, Vanessa shares her journey as an artist and how she got into Web3 technology. She also walks us through the process of creating the Women in Tech metaverse showcase and shares her thoughts on the metaverse’s future and women’s role in shaping it. Vanessa also provides valuable advice for women looking to break into the tech industry and make an impact.

So without further ado, let’s jump right into the interview!

From Art to Web3: Vanessa Camacaro’s Journey

As a child, I was always drawn to the creative arts, specifically music, art, and photography. During my educational years, I was fortunate enough to attend magnet schools where I was able to hone my skills in these areas through various programs such as art, chorus, and band. I developed my painting skills in both traditional acrylic and digital mediums and learned to play the trumpet and trombone, singing as a Soprano 1.

My passion for photography led me to start my own business, Morck Photography, where I specialized in portrait, landscape, and nature photography, as well as capturing live events. However, after becoming a mother, I temporarily put my career on hold to focus on raising my children.

Utilizing my background in business administration, I developed an interest in cryptocurrency and made it a hobby. My involvement in the Web3 community allowed me to discover that I could sell my art and photography using cryptocurrency. I eventually joined the Polygon community and it has been instrumental in shaping my career in the exciting world of Web3.

Evolving as an Artist and Moving into a Web3 Role

As a busy mother of two young boys, an AI engineering student, and an active artist in the Web3 space, finding time for my passion for art and photography can be a daunting task.

However, I was determined to find a way to balance my various responsibilities and continue creating. That’s when I stumbled upon the amazing potential of AI technology and its ability to enhance my photography and bring my artistic visions to life. I quickly embraced AI in my art; now, most of my works are a fusion of creativity and technology.

The Awakening by Vanessa Camacaro

Despite my demanding schedule, I am grateful for the opportunities that AI has opened up for me to pursue my passion for art and photography. Being able to own my time in the Web3 environment and be exposed to such early and advancing technologies has been a major source of inspiration for me to take on roles in this space. Supporting emerging artists and contributing to the community are my biggest passions and drive me to stay active in the Web3 world every day.

Creating the Women in Tech Metaverse Showcase: Behind the Scenes

The Women in Tech 2022 virtual showcase, hosted by @MyCreativeOwls and @Vans_Cmkro on Spatial.io, was an overwhelming success, attracting over 12,000 views in a mere month and showcasing the art of 53 talented women in the NFT space. This showcase was made possible by an open call on Twitter, where talented female artists from around the world responded and wanted to be a part of it.

With only two weeks to organize the event, @MyCreativeOwls created a breathtaking virtual space in Spatial.io, where I had the privilege of curating the beautiful artwork submitted during the open call.

By sharing the vision of the showcase, I was able to connect with other women who wanted to be involved as hosts, adding to the collaborative spirit of the event.

To keep the event organized, I created an agenda and formed the Women in Tech group chat, where we shared updates, and announcements, and connected with each other. Over the past year, this group has grown, and a Discord channel has been established to include artists and panel speakers from the Women in Tech Showcase 2023.

In preparation for our upcoming showcase on March 8th, 2023, I started organizing the event four months in advance to ensure a seamless and well-organized event with greater visibility. This has provided me with the opportunity for an open call, to send acceptance letters, secure sponsors, enter the SuperRare Space Competition, and open the Women in Tech Museum during this event. With this extra lead time, I am confident that the 2023 showcase will be even more successful than the previous one.

Partnering with @MyCreativeOwls: The Inspiration Behind the Women In Tech Showcase Project

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met @MyCreativeOwls at the start of my journey into the world of web3. He expertly onboarded me to Spatial through his Polygon Showcase and opened my eyes to the endless possibilities within the platform. With his inspiring guidance and unwavering support, he truly unlocked my creative potential.

His contribution to the Women in Tech event was invaluable. From the very beginning, I knew he was a trustworthy and highly capable individual, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him. Thanks to his help in designing a stunning virtual space for the event, it was a resounding success, and I am forever grateful for his influence on my web3 journey.

Onboarding to Spatial.io: Vanessa’s Experience and What She Has Learned

My first experience in onboarding others to Spatial was through the Women in Tech Showcase 2022.

The majority of the participating artists were new to the Metaverse, making it an ideal opportunity for me and @MyCreativeOwls to assist them in their transition. I eagerly volunteered to introduce the ladies to Spatial and guide them through its various features.

Inspired by this experience, I continued to create other virtual galleries where I could showcase the art of my community and my own work. By sharing my passion for these galleries, I was able to attract more individuals and onboard them to the Metaverse. Additionally, by participating in other Spatial showcases, I was able to extend invitations to members of my community to join me.

My passion for onboarding others to the Metaverse has only continued to grow. I am now working with NeoSutras on the first Art Wellness Space in Spatial, as well as with the Women in Tech Museum, where I am able to provide valuable support and guidance to others on their web3 journey.

The Future of the Metaverse and the Role of Women in Tech: Vanessa’s Insights

The metaverse is a rapidly growing and evolving industry with endless potential for creativity, innovation, and collaboration. As the future of the metaverse continues to unfold, it is important for women in tech to have a strong presence and play a key role in shaping it.

Women have always been trailblazers and change-makers in every industry, and the metaverse is no exception. Their unique perspectives, skills, and expertise bring diversity and inclusivity to the table, making the metaverse a better place for all.

Women have a natural inclination for creativity and innovation and can help drive the metaverse to new heights by exploring new and exciting opportunities that can make it more accessible, user-friendly, and impactful.

It is also important for women in tech to empower each other and support one another in this journey. By working together, we can break down the barriers that still exist for women in tech and help create a more equitable future for all.

We should not forget that technology is a tool for creativity and self-expression, and the metaverse is a perfect platform for women to showcase their talents, tell their stories, and inspire others.

Women in tech can lead the way in shaping a brighter future for the metaverse, where everyone has a voice, and everyone has the opportunity to be creative and innovative.

In conclusion, the future of the metaverse is in our hands and it is up to us to shape it into a more inclusive and empowering space for everyone. Women in tech have a critical role to play in shaping this future and making it a better place for all. Let us embrace this opportunity and make the most of it.

The Intersection of Art and Web3 Technology: Vanessa’s Vision for the Future

The future of art and Web3 technology is a fascinating and exciting one. With the advancements in technology, artists are given new and innovative ways to create, showcase and sell their art.

The metaverse is becoming a new and popular platform for artists to showcase and sell their work, allowing them to reach a wider audience and have more control over their work. The use of blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the metaverse will also provide artists with a secure and trustworthy way to sell their work.

In the future, I see artists and myself using web3 technology to create immersive and interactive experiences for our audience, blurring the lines between art and technology. The metaverse will become a platform for artists to experiment with new and innovative ways of creating and showcasing their work, giving them the freedom to express themselves in ways they never thought possible.

Overcoming Challenges and Staying Motivated

Handling criticism is never easy, especially when you’re putting your heart and soul into a project. However, as an organizer of the Women In Tech Showcase, I have learned to embrace criticism as an opportunity to grow and improve. Instead of taking negative feedback personally, I strive to analyze it objectively and consider the bigger picture. I understand that criticism is a valuable tool that can help me better understand my strengths and weaknesses, and I use it to make informed decisions about the direction of the showcase.

I also make it a point to share my vision and goals with others. By doing this, I am able to help others understand the worth and importance of the Women In Tech Showcase. I believe that this event provides a unique platform for talented female artists to showcase their work in web3, and to connect with others in the industry. The Women In Tech Showcase is not just about art and technology, but it’s about empowering women and promoting diversity and inclusivity in the field.

As we move forward into the future, I am confident that the intersection of art and web3 technology will only continue to grow and evolve. The Women In Tech Showcase is just one small piece of this puzzle, and I am excited to be part of shaping the future of the metaverse.

As a female entrepreneur in the tech industry, staying motivated and continuously innovating in my work is essential to my success. To maintain my drive, I focus on my passions and what I am passionate about which are art and photography. I believe that if you are passionate about something, it will drive you to keep creating and pushing forward.

I also surround myself with like-minded individuals who inspire me and offer support and guidance. Having a strong support system of mentors, peers, and friends is essential for staying motivated and overcoming any challenges that may arise.

In addition, I am always staying informed about new advancements in technology and how I can incorporate these advancements into my work. For example, incorporating AI into my photography has allowed me to take my art to the next level and explore new creative possibilities.

Lastly, I am a firm believer in the power of community and collaboration. Being involved in the Women in Tech Showcase and the Polygon community has allowed me to connect with other artists and entrepreneurs and has provided me with the opportunity to learn and grow together.

In conclusion, by focusing on my passions, surrounding myself with a strong support system, staying informed, and being a part of a community, I am able to stay motivated and continuously innovate in my work as a female entrepreneur in the tech industry.
