Falling

I am falling and I can’t stop.
I’m drowning in fear, it surrounds me.
The dark is lifeless but it strangles me on the way down.
It pulses a frantic beat through my body,
or maybe that is my heart.

It the worst experience I have ever encountered.
Even though deep down I know it is not real,
I am easily fooled. Terror takes over my senses.
Tortured, winged souls batter my body,
they fly into me again and again, their talons raking over my skin.

Suddenly I pass by a road, just a stretch of tarmac
imbedded in the dark. It seems familiar but I can’t remember.
A car rounds the corner, going at break-neck speed
and a girl sprints into the road just as the car comes into view,
it is too late though, the girl screams, a chilling scream.
As soon as they come into contact they burst into flames.
Black ash remains.

I carry on sinking deeper, hurtling towards nothing.
I wish I can wake up from this nightmare,
but then I abruptly remember.
I cant wake up from this, I can never wake up from this
because I was the girl. The stupid, naïve girl who didn’t
think about the consequences when she threatened to kill herself.
The girl who didn’t realise how much she wanted to live until she was dead.
