Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Life is full of fleeting memories. Fragments of who you are, of who you were–and perhaps what was to become.

And this movie, it teaches you that these puzzle pieces are so damn confusing. And you might hate them and want to get rid of them; when you act from regret and fear and confusion, you want everything to disappear. Every single piece of them who has shaped you to who you are–to vanish.

It’s somewhat satirical? It has a humorous aspect to it. Almost like fate. Do you believe in destiny? When you try to erase fragments of another being from your soul, will they ever be truly erased? From your memory, maybe, but they are imprinted on your timeline…almost like, they were somehow, ever so slightly, meant for you. That in this short and limited time we have, and the insignificance of life and these rules constricted and placed upon you, the overshadowing expectations and perceptions of other people–it all seems insignificant when you’re with them. And i feel that is to be in total and indefinite acceptance.

We live with a myriad of emotions, desires, thoughts, will. And to be oneself may be totally radical or bizzarre and fleeting and imperfect–but that is truly, what makes us human. That, is what makes us whole. And trying to rationalize with one’s being, with one’s identity and is formulated of the accumulation of a thousand steps, a thousand people, a thousand places–just to lead you to one soul, one you feel like has been there forever. Maybe you’ve just linked eyes, but why do they feel so familiar, you might ask? Are our lives even linear, and what separates the subconscious from this conscious reality we live in?

In retrospect, introspect, when you look and you truly look and you struggle to hold onto what you love–that’s when you know you really love them. It’s so simple, but never at all mundane. A circle. Life is one big, round cycle. But never ever mundane. Life, it pulls you to this illusion–no, no…this fantasy, that is ever so harmonious and at peace with one’s existence. Do you ever want to find love in the stupidity of it all?

Romanticize the monotone so that it means something. What is life if it doesn’t mean something? Sure, you don’t need to have it all figured out, but at least, try, you know. Try it out. What is stronger, the regret of a live you lived, or one you were too scared to live out? Maybe memories are fleetings. Human emotions too. Ah, the ever so temporary aspects of existence. But somewhere out there, when you’re all in your head, you look around and everything dissolves to nothingness. And then, everything. And then…them.

And it’s so beautiful. But nothing is happening. It’s just, maybe it’s like that one quote, that one pope alexander quote. Oh my god, i sound like a dope. Alexander pope! “how happy is the blameless vestal’s lot” and something about… the world forgetting…the world forgot…that sounds about right. Each prayer accepted, and each wish resigned, … oh, to live in the “eternal sunshine of the spotless mind”.

This was a draft I found in my google docs; I watched this movie a while ago and it’s one of my favorite movies to this day. Does it make any sense? If I could describe the movie in two words: “unconventionally beautiful” :)
