Life

Such a simple word for something so complex. Philosophers, scholars, and even the plainly curious have tried to understand it, to comprehend it. Not being alive for very long, my personal observation may not be as resounding as the aforementioned people. Being someone who lives in a constant state of fear, of worry, the moments when the clouds seems to clear, so to speak, the immensity of what is revealed is often overwhelming.

Life itself can be reduced down to the act of feeling. Yet another simple word for a complicated topic. So many aspects of life are measured by how we felt or are feeling. When we look back we reminisce on how someone made us feel. Such as, when that very first person looked at you with deep eyes and in them you felt seen. Like nobody had really ever seen you before. Or we shudder at the thought of when someone we believed to have loved us inflicts such a pain that we can feel the tears in our heart as if they were real, leaving scars for the years to come. Feeling is brought on by so much more than others — as there is so much more to our lives. Something found only in nature can make us feel so inspired, so utterly at peace that we forget to breathe. Walking along a street alone at night can spark an instinct of fear that strikes us to the core. We remember everything we have ever liked, have ever hated, ever loved or been afraid of. When we look into the future, we feel hope that our dream of one day hitting the road and never coming back will fill us with the sense of relief we have been searching for. We tremble in anticipation of what could be, the unknown. Life is nothing more than what we have felt and what we will feel on another day. Feeling is so completely human, so genuine. It is what drives us to fight for what we believe is just, it is the thing that makes our heart stutter with unbelievable amounts of love, it is what shatters us, breaks us down to pure nothingness. Living life to feel, to experience on such a fundamental level is what makes moments shine or darken and it brings us to our knees every time because we are humans. We are born to feel this life. We are meant to remember, to hope, to fear, to fight, to love anything and everything that happens to us because, put so simply once more, we are beings designed to feel life.
