I think the issue here is to find the balance between digital memory — which is permanent, searchable, and sellable — and consumer convenience.

If digital memory can be explicitly made to decay over a period of time, I think people would be more willing to provide more of their personal data, with the belief that it will not be with the service for an indefinite period of time.
