This the holy grail for marketers — category making.
The idea is to create and own a category… in this case “Subscription Economy” landed well for Zuora. [Side note: over the years, this category became too crowded and small, forcing them to abandon and pivot to “Subscription commerce” instead. Yeah, not so catchy.]
Also remember that once you become known as a category owner, moving away to a new category is painful and extremely difficult to reposition in the market. Guess that’s what keeps us all gainfully employed… the marketing economy :)
