India is one of the oldest nations in the world with a history that spans over 5000 years. It was one of the most advanced nation of the ancient world in terms of knowledge, trade, arts and even science. It was Aryabhatta of India, who gave the world the value of ZERO.

While today India is considered to a conservative nation, where women are looked upon as inferior sex, where talking sex and even having sex before marriage is considered bad. It was not always the case in the past.

One should not forget that India is the nation that gave the world probably the first work on sex education, the “Kama Sutra”. Sex and sexuality was taught in schools. The Kama Sutra is in reality a condensed version of a larger text “Kama Shastra”. However the Kama Shastra is no longer in existence.

In ancient India it was considered bad etiquette to turn down a proposal of a woman for sexual intercourse. Women actually had choice to chose their husband, there are references of swaymvar in many ancient texts of India.

In many ancient Indian temples that were made from stones. One can see sculptures depicting people having sexual intercourse in different positions. Temples like Khajuraho, Ajanta — Ellora , Sun Temple of Konark and many others have sexually explicit sculptures on their walls.

These temples survived since they were made of stones. There must have been similar sex temples made in the past from wood or clay, however with time those temples might have decayed with time. Stone lasts forever and the temples made from stones are still there.

Apart from Kamasutra, other beautiful texts on sex of ancient India are Ratri Rahasya, Ananga Ranga and many others. The English translations of these texts are available online. You will surely enjoy reading them.
