Sample spreads

Spread 1
Spread 2
Spread 3
Spread 4

Analyzing the grid framework

All of these spreads deviate from the expected grid framework of approximately 15 modules. These are all flexible yet structured in unique ways. For spread 1, there are clear flowlines for the content across both pages. This is a column grid, The title goes across all content in one row, and then it has three columns. There is also a picture that spreads across two columns allowing to make a statement. There is a small distance between the columns with the main content, yet for page 2 there is more distance with the column of additional information. This distance is also applied to the indentation on the same page, which creates a balance between both pages of the spread.

For spread 2, it is divided into four different columns with the same distance between these. one of the columns is empty which makes the content centered on the middle of the page. This is the same size of the empty row at the top of the page, which creates a flowline for clarity as well.

For spread 3, the sections are different. There are different sizes for these, as the first column spreads across what looks as twice the size of the second column on that first page. Yet it continues with the same content, it interferes a little bit with the clarity of the information and hierarchy as well. There is also a lack of flowlines across both pages, which interferes further with this as well. The information is kind of all over the place, and the margins are small which make this clarity problem worse.

For spread 4, it is divided into three columns, the first and last column creates the distance for the margins to make the content centered on the page. The title is kind of spread across two columns which does not help balance the information.

All these spreads are column spreads. Yet they explore distinct elements with distance, amount of columns/rows, and margin size. I believe the spread that helps transmit the information very clearly are both spread 1 and 2. Compared to 3 and 4 which are a little bit unbalanced and conflicted across the identified elements.
