Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy

The coziest crew in all of culture collaborates once again on a project consisting of catchy Comme Des Garcons and Gucci concoctions. A$AP Mob successfully released their second project in a calendar year with Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy. RIP Yams.

After a year separated from their debut project Cozy Tapes, Vol. 1: Friends, A$AP Mob returns with a 17 track album, and this time around they’ve learned important lessons:

  1. They separated the skits! This is huge for the success of the project. The replay-ability on several tracks from the original Cozy Tapes is little to none due to the never-ending skits prior to the climactic beat drop.
  2. You can never have too much Rocky. (Drop the solo ‘ject Rock)
  3. The Mob crew is good enough on their own. Not every track needs a bigger star substitution in order for the album to be fruitful. Feed off of the in-house Twelvyy vibes instead of fetching Skepta, Wiz Khalifa, or Offset.
  4. *a continuation of the third lesson* YOUR BRAND IS BIG ENOUGH. Mob now has several clothing brands of their own: VLone, Marino Infantry, FYBR/LYBB, and a hand in Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh. Recognition feels less forced on this project than the prior, allowing the core to further express themselves and shine.
  5. Let. Rocky. Get. Jiggy. i.e. the “Feels So Good” and “FYBR” choruses.

Standout Tracks

“Perry Aye” feat. A$AP Nast, Rocky, Playboi Carti & Jaden Smith

From the moment the album begins, the message is clear, the album will go by quick and leaving us wanting more. The Mob (A$AP Rocky, A$AP Twelvy, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Ant, A$AP TyY, and Key) didn’t shy away from bringing in their A-List homeboys once again. The first feature on the project comes from the from one and only, Jaden Smith, who somehow manages to regurgitate the entire concept of the hypebeast culture into one hook on “Perry Aye”.

“Blowin’ Minds (Skateboard)” feat. A$AP Rocky, Nast, Ant, Chief Keef & Playboi Carti

Chief Keef is guaranteed to steal the show on any feature he delivers, the thirst for the Chicago glock star on high quality beats is higher than ever after his seclusion as of late and disappointing solo projects. But to show up Rocky… that’s a tall task most people shouldn’t attempt.

“I don’t waste time on the FaceTime, RIP the pussy leave it face down, two best friends at the same time.”

The idea of a human as perfect as A$AP Rocky from simply a charismatic and attractive standpoint leaves the entire audience curious as to what his every day life is lived like. Rocky’s first few bars on this track are monumental peep holes into his rockstar lifestyle. Nast is nasty with the shits on this one too.

“Walk On Water” feat. A$AP Twelvyy, Ant, Nast, Ferg, and Playboi Carti

Carti fulfills his chorus killing prophecy for the hundredth time, taking a slow-paced instrumental and morphing it into a NATIONAL PLAYERS ANTHEM.

“I just robbed a lil nigga & took that nigga bih, we can touch the water, bitch I walk, walk on top of water, sliiiiime.”

Now it is very clear that walking on top of water is literally impossible. BUT, with that being said, Carti’s confidence is so convincing that he might actually be convincing me he’s capable of the impossible and is not actually referring to water as a metaphor for jewelry.

“Feels So Good” feat. A$AP Rocky, Nast, Ant, Twelvyy, & Ferg

“Feels So Good” is the all-encompassing sequel anthem to last year’s “Yamborghini High” featuring a verse from each of the OG Mob members. The best line on the entire album is spit from the model A$AP member Twelvyy, who sounds as joyful as a kid from Harlem getting a pair of Gucci sneakers for Christmas:

“Pelle Pel, butter soft, we was in’em lobbies, holla holla, steady mobbin’, ONLY GOD CAN STOP ME.”

A$AP Mob is officially resting in the lead of the rap game, with a comfortable slouched back chair in the all-black Maybach coolin’ on cruise control. The Beast Coast is back, delivering pimpin’ symphonies for hip-hop heads all over the world right on time for cozy boys season.
