Digital promiscuity vs electrical morality

I do hope that one day the internet will be like electricity.

Wherever you go in the world and the place has been electrified, you can plug in your travel iron and make your shirt look presentable.

OK, if it’s a 110 V and you come from a 220 country you take out your adapter and make it the friendly go-between.

What’s the big deal? Why can’t we have something similar for online?

I just want to be able to go from one digital territory to another without any restrictions, or with minimal fuss. No more than an adapter that I can throw in my bag before I head for the door or can buy in lots of places, if I forget it at home.
