British comedian, actor, and author Paul O’Grady is a fixture on British television. On June 14, 1955, he entered the world in the English town of Birkenhead. O’Grady is most known for his drag queen persona, Lily Savage, whom he created in the 1980s and performed until the early 2000s.

O’Grady is from a working-class family in the Liverpool suburb of Birkenhead. At 16, he dropped out of school and went on to have a number of other professions, including those of clerk, bartender, and social worker. Nonetheless, it was his comedic abilities that brought him to prominence.

O’Grady started performing as Lily Savage, a drag queen, in homosexual bars in London in the early 1980s. His popularity grew rapidly as word spread about his cutting wit and tongue. O’Grady started making frequent guest appearances on various TV shows, such as “The Bill” (a comedy program) and “Blankety Blank” (a quiz show).

In the 1990s, when O’Grady was given his own talk program, “The Lily Savage Show,” on the ITV network, his career took off. O’Grady became famous thanks to the show’s enormous popularity. During the ’90s and ’00s, he made more and more appearances on the screen and in theater under the stage name Lily Savage.

O’Grady put Lily Savage to rest in 2004 and went on to host his own talk show, “The Paul O’Grady Show,” which was wildly successful and lasted for many years. During that time, he interviewed several famous people and had humorous bits with audience members.

O’Grady is well-known not just for his work on television, but also as a published novelist. His memoir, “At My Mother’s Knee…and Other Low Joints,” was a UK bestseller and one of his many works.

O’Grady has also been a vocal supporter of animal rights and is a benefactor to various organizations dedicated to animal care. Paul O’Grady is no stranger to this field; he has hosted various documentaries and talk shows on the subject, such as “Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans” and “Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs.”

Paul O’Grady has become a national treasure in the United Kingdom thanks to his extensive and fruitful career in the entertainment industry. His comedic skills, wit, and genuineness have earned him a fan favorite on both the small screen and the big.
