The Art of Jazz

Famous Chicago artist Archibald John Motley, Jr. is known for his lively, vibrant composition. While not stritchly following modern perspective, the overlays of his figures over stationary backgrounds represent an artistic choice to choose design over strict, realistic representation. His art is infused with emotion and action by representating all of the room as a whole to back up his choices. His portraits show an insistence on gravity and pathos that is shown with exagerrated detail. The concept of the person or the feel of the place is represented instead of trying to individualize or seperate the subject represented from the artist. My art choices are not easy to explain and I can not take art I make too seriously. Art is not precious when I create it but a way for me to express myself creatively. That is the reason that abstraction and modern art speak so well to me. It is about experimentation and improvisation. It is also about speaking with a new voice and uniquely bringing technique to bear on composition.
