Thomas Alva Edison is undoubtedly one of the most prolific inventors of our lifetime.

He has 1,093 patents under his name, which includes the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and his most significant, the light bulb.

His light bulb invention wasn’t an instant success, he failed a lot, it shows the power of determination of him.

Thomas Alva Edison tried “two thousand” different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained,

“All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing.”

Edison replied very confidently,

“Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We now know that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb.”

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THOMAS EDISON:

Thomas Edison’s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.”

He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.”

As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.

When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?”

Edison replied,

“I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
