Your experiences and those of your Country point towards what disturbs me the most about what’s going on here. In regards to the vast percentage of people here that view this form of propaganda and language as being something new and unheard of. As you point out, it is far from new and history tells us what has and has not worked when it comes to overcoming that kind of political direction. Namely not falling into the trap of attempting to refute the lies, instead pointing directly to the propaganda techniques that are being employed and calling them out directly, then and only then speaking to the truth. Massive protests also go a long ways and we haven’t had any of significance since shortly after the election. Mainly, because that event was singular in its profound and disturbing nature. Since then it has been mostly small steps, hidden and the mass focus has been on the lies and a singular issue, such as healthcare. Not the tremendous alteration of the core structures of the government.
Fortunately, as they say, a chain is only as strong is its weakest link, in this case, that’s Trump himself.
A story of just how careless he is, as told by Charlie Sheen. Charlie had gotten married recently and was at a party when Trump walked by his table. Trump stopped and congratulated him and then verbalizing how he hadn’t gotten him a wedding present, he took off his diamond cuff links and gave them to Charlie. Charlie was touched, pretty neat right? Literally giving him his own cuff links.
Well, a bit of time passed and Charlie decided to find out how many carats they were and how much they were worth. They were Trump’s own brand of diamond cuff links too. So, Charlie was there sitting in front of his jeweler when the guy said, “These are cubic zirconia.” Charlie said, “What!”. The jeweler replied, “They’re fake, they’re practically worthless.”
They were Trump’s brand, he was wearing them, he knew damn well that they were fake. But, he thought that he could get away with passing them off as real, as a present, to a celebrity who has experience with valuable jewels.
It’s difficult for me to imagine someone being that consumed by their own imagined invulnerability that they think they can get away with anything, no matter how blatant.
