A “Pomodoro Technique” to maximize your Productivity.
I have heard about this technique for the first time in Amal career prep fellowship online course and then researched about it and found that: The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The intervals are named as pomodoro’s, the plural in English of the Italian word pomodoro(tomato), after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a university student. I found it an interesting thing and thought of trying it as I have to submit my proposal at 9 a.m sharp at any cost so I think this technique will prove fruitful for me in order to complete my really important task.
So what I did was, I just turned my phone on silent, logged out of Facebook, turned off all the notifications, bring my laptop and a bottle of water and some snack to eat along with my notebook, pen and a laptop charger with me in my room, sat on a study table and set a timer of 25 minutes in order to do work without any distraction. After starting the timer I start doing work on my proposal and do continuous work on it with full concentration until a distraction pop up and guess what after 20 minutes of the time I really feel like I have to go to the washroom, so I just stopped the timer and went for a washroom come back on my sit again and write about this distraction on my notebook and start the timer but it takes almost 5 minutes to recognize what I am doing and how I was supposed to do it. And then the timer tings and I just completed 25% of my work in this time. I make a star on piece of paper and go outside of my room to look around the things to do a walk for 3 to 4 minutes so that I didn’t feel tired on sitting for another 25 minutes in order to complete my task.
I came back in my room sit on my seat again and set another timer for 25 minutes and told my self that if I was able to complete these 25 minutes without any distraction I will give myself a reward of checking my Facebook notifications. So I just start the timer and started doing work on my proposal and guess what this time I became successful as for the 25 minutes no distraction came and I was able to do my 45% work almost done, which mean by putting together the work done in first 25 minutes and then in the second 25 minutes I was able to complete my almost 70% of work done within just 50 minutes and it was just amazing. And as I promised myself I give a reward to me and see FB notification for almost 5–7 minutes and then come back to complete my proposal.
Again I set the timer for 25 minutes and start doing work like before on my proposal after only after 5 minutes a distraction knocks on my door, it was my mother saying to me to come outside and help her in making dinner. I have no option left other than that to stop the timer go outside and help her in making the dinner. After eating dinner I came back in my room write down about the distraction in my notebook, start the timer and start working on my proposal and then after 19–20 minutes the timer tings. And I have almost just completed my work on proposal I just only need 10 more minutes to work on it so I decide to work on it and then I will reward myself at the end after completing the whole work done.
So I set the timer on another 25 minutes and start doing work on my proposal and guess what this time timer doesn’t tings. This time it was me who stop the timer after 20 minutes as I completed my whole work really quickly. After completing my work by using a “Pomodoro technique” I realize that this technique is quite useful and prove fruitful for me as I never completed my task as early as now and the experience of mine using this technique was adorable. I really like to use this technique in my future work or in order to complete my future tasks as it proves a really beneficial technique and helps me accomplish more in short time. But for the next time I would like to do one thing more that is I try my best to remove the distractions that I noted down in order to complete my tasks more earlier and in more shorter period of time. In Sha ALLAH. :)
