
Why WhatsApp’s new feature is a game changer!

If you want to suceed at selling in the digital space, that is were your end game shoud be! As a company, all your focus, hard work & focus, should be on that platform where everybody’s attention IS!
Yesterday WhatsApp rolled out an update which can be a game changer to everyone who is looking to make a sale in the digital space.
Not eberybody has or devotes all their time on Instagram, Snapchat or Fb Messenger…but the one place everybody, and I mean LITERALLY everybody is on; is WhatsApp.
This new feature allows you to post stories and updates about what you are doing everyday on real time, and this disappears within 24hrs. Nothing new, it has been done before by Snapchat, Instagram and Messenger. However, none of these platforms have even a fraction of the “ Mass Attention” as does WhatsApp.
How can brands leverage this?
Firstly, move away from giving out office numbers from LandLine to Mobile. This ensures everybody who has your number saved on their device, gets to see your updates on WhatsApp.
Put out your company’s everyday journey in the form of stories for all the people who have your number saved to see. This humanises your brand and allows you to build a connection with your customers. I personally feel there can be no better form of “top of mind marketing” than this.
For example, if you are a restaurant, post videos of your chefs making a new dish; this builds a connection with your audience and leverages you to try to make a sale!
As a Startup, what should you do?
As human beings, we all love stories. We love to watch the journey somebody else is going through in the form of small stories.
One of the founders or all the founding team, take the onus to regularly post stories about your entreprenual journey. This makes all the more sense if you are product driven company, where your potential customers will connect more with you more on an emotional level that a value proposition from the products you are selling.
I personally see most of the brands going Cellular number first and using WhatsApp stories to connect with their customers, simply because a disproportionate chuck of the attention is HERE.
Novelty of a new product only lasts for so long. For the next month, all the attention of the world will be on this new feature from WhatsApp. The choice to leverage your brand is yours.
