April 21st, 2015 three (3) years ago I lost a friend and most importantly a brother from an other mother. Marvin Anthony Augustin was murdered, a quiet yet funny and happy individual.

While many sympathized, others questioned his sexuality and paid little attention to the act that was committed. Are we saying that it was rightly deserved because we are a “Christian Society” or that we believe in the words of Buju Banton “Bom Bye Bye in a batty bwoy head?”

The lifeless body was found on the trouya beach in Bois D’orange Gros Islet by friends who went on a search after Augustin didn’t return home on Monday April 20th. Augustin who sent a picture to his best friend of the suspected murderer is yet to be apprehended.

Three years later the murderer is still out there roaming freely, friends and family members are still haunted by the painful memories of their love one on the tragic Tuesday afternoon of April 21st.. To date there has been no follow up by the police officers in relation to the case and nothing is being said on the matter not even to family members. Is it because one’s perceived or real sexual orientation that may seem to differ that what is supposedly accepted that we must forget the gruesome act? Wasn’t he a human being who had his life cut short at just 17 years old?

Many questions are yet to be answered by the authorities in St.Lucia. One day I am hoping that justice will prevail and the heartless attacker will be punished for taking such a beautiful soul from his family and friends. He was a young man with a passion and dreams which he never had the chance to fulfill.

This is not the first murder related to someone’s perceived or real sexual orientation on island and do date nothing has been done. Sadly we’ve had to many incidences occurring where young persons are physically violated in a most violent way because they seem to be different. Though not all of them have passed those who have may their souls Rest In Peace and continue to soar with the angels.
