Breathing hard, Ivy slammed the front door behind her. She’d lost her bucket of candy and witch’s hat, but she’d eluded the wispy transparent figure that had floated behind her for blocks.
It looked nothing like a movie ghost. No sheet. No “oooo.” But it had carried a huge burlap sack.
The doorbell rang. Again.
“Answer it!” her father shouted.
With trembling hands, she turned the knob. Outside, the hovering ghost raised its sack. “Triiiick or Treeeat!”
Ghosts liked Halloween candy? Laughing, she offered a Reese’s –
And the sack slipped over her head, the specter whisking Ivy into the unknown.
