Mr. Frankford jauntily led Sandra down a hall she’d never seen. “Happy one-month anniversary!” he cried.
Sandra glowed. Working for Ultra-Spooky Sound Effects had been her dream; their Halloween volumes terrified neighborhood kids. But until now, she’d only answered phones.
They passed doors labeled “Exsanguination Hall,” “Insect Auditorium,” “Punching Room.”
“Our secret,” her boss grinned, “is we don’t use foley. We’re the real deal. Our loyal employees are our canvas.”
He jabbed his three-fingered hand at her, its wizened stumps puckering like lips, then at two final doors: “Meat Sounds” and “The Sizzler.”
“Your choice!” he announced. “Amputations or burns?”
