There are a couple of specific things that bug about the war on terrorism. And I always think about these things in vague comparison to the American Revolution. Don’t think that I’m comparing us to terrorists.

1. In the American Revolution we referred to ourselves as Patriots, Revolutionaries and Continentals. We declared the colonies as the United States of America. I doubt if the British used any of those terms. So, why are we calling the terrorists in Syria and Iraq by their preferred name, Islamic State, ISIS or ISIL. Many statesmen and overseas media call them by an arabic term, DAESH. A scant few Americans use the term, but awkwardly, because our leaders have not embraced it. Secretary of State Kerry uses it regularly. POTUS makes him look stupid by not using the term at all.
2. Again, in the American Revolution, the British used conventional warfare of the time. They lined up and marched forward while we hid in the bushes and shot them down. Guerrilla warfare was not brand new to that time. It just makes me think we need to change our tactics. In this case we are the British sticking to our conventional tactics and getting mowed down because we refuse to change.

Our leaders are falling short in presenting a unified front by using common terms and tactics that will crush DAESH.
