Red Faced Passenger Screams at Airline Crew and Misses Miracle
Carlo Villarica

I’ve seen this happen many times, and even if miracle isn’t quite the word, the engineering and the care taken to inspect and maintain equipment keeps things right. When flights are cancelled or delayed due to mechanical failures, I always think, “What would have happened if they decided to leave anyway?” I was on a flight from the midwest USA to Paris that had to land in Chicago because one of the alternators dies in flight. The pilot announced “We’ve lost an alternator, and we’ll need to go back and land. And only a madman would cross the Atlantic with one alternator.” I always imagined a scene in the cockpit was the copilot who said “Aw, let’s just keep going.”
