Responsible for the Current State of America?

We the People

Once an optimistic, positive country where anything was possible, a place people around the world flocked to for its offer of success and a good life, America has become a poster child for dysfunctional government, political infighting and despair.

The blame goes to us, the voters, The People. Mostly, the blame rests on the shoulders of people who don’t vote, or the voters who will never read this, because they will not leave the bubble. The satire of House of Cards is so realistic it’s almost painful to watch, but it’s fiction, so we are entertained by it. There is nothing entertaining about the current electoral situation, reported daily to laughs and scowls.

‣ We blame the media, but they are only giving The People what they want.
‣ We blame the lobbies and the money, but if we The People did our job, that wouldn’t matter.
‣ We blame current and former political leaders, who wouldn’t have had an office had we The People done our homework.

In short, We The People blame everyone else. We’ve become our own fascist uncle. It’s the Mexicans’ fault that we’re out of job. The media covers the horse race, not the issues. The candidates insult each other and propagate division, hatred, racism, instead of discussing the issues and their plans to address them. They do this because this is the way to power, pandering and entertaining the audience, We The People.

Political satirist Jimmy Dore said something that struck a chord with me:

“When you start hating people who are lower on the economic scale from you, you know you are being manipulated by people higher than you on that same scale.”

It’s always someone else’s fault. Does that sound right to any thinking person?
