Eric: What are the two most regulated products legal for sale in the US? Prescription medications and firearms. Meds are abused by junkies that break the law to do so. Firearms are abused by criminals that break the law to do so. The idea that it will only take 5–6 “extra minutes” and a background check will end the abuse of firearms by criminals is simply not true. We have ample evidence that most killers obtain their weapons illegally, or pass the already-required federal background check. I’ll assume you mean well, Eric, but laws don’t prevent crime — the CJ system punishes criminls for the crimes they have committed. We have stringent laws against drunk driving, yet thousands of people die (and are killed) every year in drunk driving accidents. Where is the cry to “do something” about that? Evil cannot be legislated out of existance.
