Becoming the Morning person- a small step towards a better life

Life was good. Waking up in the morning became a thing of distinct past since my college days. Unless there is a work to do strictly at morning or I am travelling somewhere( Yes while travelling I want to seize every ounce of natural moments) I was waking up between 11 am and 12 pm.

All the energies that time seemed to flow at night, say it coding, brainstorming or preparing documents for clients. After that, being in Indian Standard Time zone the conversations on startups topics gets hotter at night and especially the Product Hunt Live chats were at late night(I just love PH live chats), then some Youtube series and I was totally rocking in that lifestyle. I was sleeping around 4.00am. But I always wanted to change it for better.

Earlier efforts to wake in the morning

I always wanted to wake up in the morning, mainly because the beauty of morning sun and comparatively cold breeze helps me relieve of wary thoughts and always remind me how beautiful the world is.

Somehow that wasn’t lucrative enough and the excuses found their own way to stop me from doing the right thing.

Help is always there if you seek

There are other people, successful people, well known in their respective circles sharing their experiences over blogs. Each day someone is sharing their story on what they achieved, how they are breaking old poor habits and paving way to the new. I felt guilty, still procrastinated, but each day the wall of reluctance was breaking due to my wish, inspirations and willingness.

Then I learned, it is best to provide yourself a strong purpose to making something happen.

The excuses — finding the right ones to do good things

There was always excuse not to wake up at morning, the desire to wake up was there but the devilish excuse was supreme to my willingness until someday my friend asked me if I want to learn swimming at morning and I seized that opportunity.

This time, I gave myself excuse to so something better. First days were tough as always, waking up at 6.00 clock, shifting almost 5hrs earlier. Giving up some late night activities but as I always wanted to learn swimming, it made the effort easier.

The discipline

Now as I woke every morning I serve my purpose of fulfilling a wish and doing it every day since last 1 month created a morning discipline. Still, I am working out on many aspects of my life but starting something good is giving me a boost to do more things in a more improved way every day.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. — Jim Rohn

The side effects

The drowsiness, pain in the whole body was bloody obvious meantime I also caught cold but it is not about the negatives it is about the positive ones.

After few days my energy level increased, focus on work increased and surprisingly, earlier I was sleeping for 7–8hrs still at some point in the day and still I felt sleepy some of the days but now, I need sleep of 6hrs only.

A daily dose of exercise at morning is helping me to stay active throughout the day. I am getting plenty of time to work on many aspects of my life from my startup life at RedElegant to achieving new heights in personal life.

Other ways to wake in the morning

Even sometimes some of us need an extra effort to wake up at morning.

  1. Some alarm apps will ask you to scan a barcode if you want to stop it, some will post in Facebook or Twitter if you didn’t make it.

2. Tell yourself if you can’t even do it, how can you do something great(I try this method in over many cases many times)

3. I even heard someone set auto donating of $25 and has to wake early to prevent himself losing the amount.

Different tricks work for different people, find your own, after all you have the key to do great things.

Give yourself something to do

I think it is best to give yourself something to do. Some purpose, think what inspires you, what excites you to start a new day and start for the sake of it. Do things that are going to put you in better sate of mind, body and soul.

I typically try to do the following things in morning-

  1. Exercise(swimming or jogging).
  2. Plan out my day.
  3. Read news in Inshorts or read good articles that I saved in Basket.
  4. Challenge myself to think of 5-10 ideas in morning.

Wanted to share my little accomplishment with you and also hope it might inspire and help someone, just like I was benefited.
