PHOENIX, Ariz. — Today’s startup landscape is undeniably competitive, but 10 Arizona-based businesses are now in the running for a $50,000 business investment that could change their entire life.
Street Pitch, a fast-paced startup challenge sponsored by Cox Business, funded by the Arizona Founders Fund and led by the 48 Startups organization, is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at CityScape in Downtown Phoenix, and the Arizona Founders Fund has selected 10 of the best and brightest local startups to take part in the fast-paced, Q&A-style competition. Participants include:
- A La Carte Charts
- ABEE Rideshare
- Mindspree, Inc.
- Parts Detect
- Life365, Inc.
- Trainual LLC
- SKILLED, LLC
- Storage Together LLC
- eTrack Tech, Inc.
“Arizona Founders Fund is proud to support the Street Pitch again in its second year, and this year’s selection process proved particularly grueling,” said Romi Dillon, of the Arizona Founders Fund, which provides funding and support for the state’s tech-focused businesses. “Arizona’s startup founders are talented, passionate, and truly exceptional, and we’re excited to support and invest in the future generation of Arizona’s great technology entrepreneurs.”
Originally launched as a component of TechStars Startup Week PHX 2017, Street Pitch gives local startups considerable exposure as well as a new outlet through which to seek investments. Now led by 48 Startups, a Phoenix-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing Arizona entrepreneurs with world-class events, education and mentorship, the competition is made possible thanks to a sponsorship from Cox Business, which provides communications solutions to businesses of all sizes.
“Giving back to the community is a tenant of how the Cox family of companies does business,” said Rod Lewis, the marketing director for Cox Business Arizona. “Participating in Street Pitch allows Cox Business to support a climate of entrepreneurship. When businesses start, grow and thrive here, it benefits all Arizonans.”
In addition to shining a spotlight on some of the state’s most eager and innovative minds, the Street Pitch competition will also draw considerable crowds to downtown Phoenix.
“Downtown Phoenix has emerged as a diverse, 24–7 urban center where an increasing number of people want to live, work, learn and play, and nowhere is downtown’s dramatic growth more apparent than in the innovation sector,” said Sara Scoville-Weaver, the business development manager for Downtown Phoenix, Inc. “Street Pitch is an excellent representation of the recent sea of change, and we’re proud to support the event’s growth and celebrate its impact.”

Collaborative Pop-up Space “Startups on Central” Opens Feb. 1
Also on the calendar during TechStars Startup Week PHX 2018 is the opening of “Startups on Central,” a free activation and resource center for members of the startup community located at Cityscape (Washington St & Central Ave) in downtown Phoenix. Startups on Central is slated to open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, and operate from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, with after-hours access available by appointment.
Offered by 48 Startups, the team behind Street Pitch, in collaboration with CityScape and Downtown Phoenix, Inc., Startups on Central provides a complimentary, collaborative working space for entrepreneurs to share and gain insight, ideas and inspiration.
“It really does ‘take a village’ to bring this environment together for our community,” said 48 Startups President Stephen Viramontes. “We’re privileged to work with so many people who are passionate and committed to making this happen for startup ecosystem.”
Among the city’s most ardent startup supporters is the team at RED Development, which built Cityscape back in 2010.
“We’re excited and ready to support Phoenix’s entrepreneurs more than ever this year,” said Sara Anderson, the director of marketing for RED Development. “The energy Street Pitch brings is going to be doubled with the addition of the Startups on Central, giving startups an opportunity to gain unprecedented access to resources available right here at CityScape.”
