The North Wind and the Sun

The North Wind and the Sun were having a dispute over who was stronger. The North Wind boasted that he could blow harder than the Sun, and the Sun claimed that he could warm up the earth more effectively.

To settle the dispute, they decided to have a contest. They saw a man walking down the road, and the North Wind said, “I’ll bet I can make that man take off his coat faster than you can.”

The Sun agreed to the challenge, and the North Wind blew with all his might, trying to make the man take off his coat. However, the harder the North Wind blew, the tighter the man held onto his coat.

The Sun then shone brightly, and the man began to feel warm. He took off his coat and walked on, feeling comfortable in the warm sunshine.

The North Wind realised that he had lost the contest, and the Sun proved to be the stronger of the two. The moral of the story is that gentle persuasion is more effective than force
