I’m An Ex-Google Woman Tech Leader And I’m Sick Of Our Approach To Diversity!
Vidya Narayanan

The only critique I have of this is that encouraging women to study engineering at university is too little too late. In my years doing outreach in the K12 community I’ve seen that boys and girls both show a near equal appreciation for STEM fields early on. Unfortunately, by the time these children are entering middle school there is a dramatic drop off in interest among girls. If we are going to fill the pipeline with smart dedicated and talented people we need to support and encourage girls throughout their education — not just at the collegiate level.

This is why we need to support and provide mentorships to girls through activities like FIRST, Girls Learning Code, and so forth.
