Epiphany bathing in ice water is contraindicated for diseases of the cardiovascular system, hypertension, epilepsy and circulatory disorders, pediatrician Ramil Shakhveledov told NEWS.ru. The doctor added that for children, diving into an ice hole is fraught with convulsions and cardiac arrest.

Contraindications: cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, circulatory disorders. Also, immersion in cold water is not recommended during pregnancy, as it leads to the risk of pregnancy complications and fetal development. Epiphany bathing can be dangerous for children, especially if they are not prepared for such a procedure. Swimming in cold water can cause serious health problems, including hypothermia, seizures and even cardiac arrest , noted Shakhveledov.

The day before, therapist Yana Shmeleva told NEWS.ru that the maximum duration of plunging into the ice hole for Epiphany is 60 seconds . The doctor added that swimming is only possible in specially equipped places where teams of doctors and rescuers are on duty.

The interlocutor emphasized that a person should eat one and a half to two hours before plunging, since one cannot immerse in ice water on an empty stomach. Shmeleva reminded that when leaving the ice hole, you need to rub yourself with a towel, get dressed and drink hot tea.
