So I have this “friend” who is completely different from me. We used to be close friends back in the early ‘90s, but now we’ve drifted apart, at least I think we have.

The last time I saw him he was going off about n-word this, n-word that, which made me quite uncomfortable and left a bad taste in my mouth.

So this last time when I was visiting my home town, I did not call him to let him know I was in town. Well, obviously, from mutual friends he has since learned that I had brushed him off.

I never officially confronted him and told him that we shouldn’t be friends anymore. I just thought he would get the hint and not try to contact me anymore.

Well, I think I was being foolish because he has tried to contact me via phone and Facebook and text and all the rest of it.

I do feel I owe him an apology, or at least an explanation of why I’ve brushed him off. However, I don’t know where to begin.

Everything is political with this person. And we are on completely opposite ends of the political spectrum. I just grew tired of listening to Trumpisms and religious ramblings from him that I had had enough.

I was hoping he would just accept that I did not want to contact him anymore and just leave me alone.

But then I got a text message last night at 11:30 PM consisting of one single word: “Todd…”

I suppose I should answer back, but I really don’t want to. He’s not the type that takes a hint. I miss the old, non-political, non-racist pal that I used to know 30 years ago.

I don’t want to confront him. I just want to not have contact with him anymore. Should I tell him as much, or should I leave it be?
