hey there! Thank you for sharing your personal story! So yes — absent or irregular ovulation is part of the PCOS picture. I don’t know how old this anecdote is, but it is true that metformin (an insulin-sensitizing drug most often used for diabetes management) can help ovulation to happen. However, for the past few decades, we’ve preferentially used clomiphene, and now letrozole, as first-line medications to induce ovulation, as their success rate is higher, and side effects fewer. That said, metformin can still be a useful adjunct for those with insulin resistance; when combined with diet & exercise, it can help prevent further weight gain or progression of diabetic-type disease!
