German intern dies of anepileptic seizure caused by long working hours. German Moritz Erhardt worked for investment bank Merrill and Lynch as intern in London. Moritz wanted to success in cruel banking industry and was willing to work around the clock despite his medical condition. Whether or not his seizure was triggered by lack of sleep and stress caused by the job, banking industry pushes employees to their limits. Because competition is so hard, employee is always replaceable. If one is not willing to put in the needed hours someone else will.

Wellness programs offered by employers aims for employee wellbeing. Wellness programs are beneficial for increasing health and preventing future health issues. That way with little investment, employer get employees that are physically in better shape and doesn’t have to take as many sick leave days. Employers can encourage employees to take care of their physical health by providing discounted or free gym memberships, cash rewards, offering healthier food options at work, participating in smoking cessation and weight-management programs. According to the liveplan.com article, results of wellness programs are conflicted. Company called Johnson&Johnson indicates that their wellness program is huge success and that they have saved more than $250million over the last decade. In a big company it is hard to spread the word about wellness program and even harder to get participants.
