Rate My Leader team has the ambition to improve the quality of leadership globally, now and for generations to come. It sounds like a huge goal to achieve for a few team members, right? Surprise: thanks to our users this happens daily!

So how did it all start? The beginning meant dreaming to change the world through honest feedback, followed by discovering our own personalities and taking the first steps in Rate My Leader implementation.

Since we are a small size team, we had the challenge to find a methodology that works for us. We agreed that the agile methodology works best for us to design Rate My Leader.

Our CEO, who is also our Product Owner, went through a self-paced learning period to understand her role and responsibilities in the Agile Ecosystem. Our People and Finance Presidents joined her in the efforts to get familiar both with the methodology and tools used, while the development and user experience team spent this time to understand what is the business behind the application and its goals. As a result, we had a great project ramp-up. Of course, user stories and tasks were refined through practice, and everyone participated in improving the agile process for themselves and the others.

The outcome of our first two sprints: write user stories having in mind the best interest of the user, enhance them by making them more transparent, and you shall improve both the team spirit and the development results! Besides the methodology challenge, our discovery process meant learning about security and privacy laws, business rules and bugs to fix (found in staging). At that time all these were overwhelming, but looking back we are proud of how much we learned and achieved!

We believe that we made through that discovery period through being united by a common dream and a curiosity for what’s beyond the assigned task. Nowadays each user interaction, rating and feedback ignite new ideas for us, and we (will) transform those discoveries into new features of Rate My Leader.
