Work AND Worship

Work is a word which conveys a specific meaning like all the words in English language. What is the dictionary meaning of work? It says, ‘work is an activity in which one exerts strength of faculties to do or perform something; an activity that a person engages in regularly to earn a livelihood’. Work is also defined as a specific task, duty, function or assignment often being a part of a phase of some larger activity. So much for the meaning of work; I will put it as, ‘work is a dynamic activity of a person’. Work can be of any nature. Mental cogitation also is a form of work. Someone is working studiously that means that person is in union with his mental and work process. Work which is initiated in the mind as a thought is put into action. The action is converted into a physical activity. Physical activity in high concentration is in union with the mental thought process. We have seen a person who is engrossed in the work process is startled even if spoken mildly. There is a cessation of thoughts which is unusual for the mind. Work achieves dynamic equilibrium with the mind and thought process. Perhaps this state is achieved after vigorous spiritual practice. What is dynamic activity? Each and every animate or inanimate object is in a state of dynamism. Even at rest all are in a dynamic state.

I will briefly touch on the cell structure. Cells are the building blocks of all living beings. They are in a constant state of dynamism. Each cell works tirelessly day in and day out performing the task. I am not getting into molecular biology. The ingestion of energy by a cell is in the form of ions; I have read about calcium ions et cetera. The solid food digested is broken into tiny particles. In essence the food is converted to ions and cells convert the charged particles ions into energy. I mentioned earlier that even in a state of rest the body is dynamic. Physical parts of the body do not move but the cells are in a highly dynamic state. The dynamic state is energy.

Energy and the human body.

The energy pattern omitted by an individual is called aura. Each person emanates a different color of energy hence a different aura. Many experiments are done to understand aura. The aura (discerned by color) varies from person to person. It varies according to food habits, state of the mind and environment also plays a prominent role in a person’s creation of aura. Sometimes we get attracted to a person who is a complete stranger. Instantly we like the person but cannot make out why?. It is said both persons have similar aura patterns. The same concept applies to feelings of hatredness with a stranger. These experiences make it obvious that forces, energies play an important role in our activity. I am not referring to this phenomenon as something which is out of bounds of human beings. Human beings create their own auras and possess the ability to change the aura emanation.

Play of energy

The work humans do are varied. It can be manual labour; office work, and many other types of work. The cells coordinate and participate in the work. Energy is produced, spent while working. The energy is exactly similar to the type of work being performed. I can say that each type of work being done will have that particular energy grid. Perhaps a person engaged in criminal activity produces energy of a very high intensity. I have heard about persons committing serious offences and wondering, ruing the fact that why and how they committed after some time. In India a person who killed his wife in cold blood repented for his action. He had a 6 year old daughter. He analysed that he was in a state of uncontrollable anger during the crime scene. The energy was so powerful he had no control and succumbed to the power of energy and committed the crime. He got reformed and went on learning anger management. Starting from his prison cell; he taught anger management to his prison mates. He took that as a mission and visited many prisons and taught anger management. It is said he nipped in bud many criminal cases before it happened. He went later to his daughter and sought her pardon for the crime he committed. He said he is now more motivated after his daughter pardoned him.

Worship and energy.

The beautiful depiction of energy play is the way Shiva (Worshipped by Hindus and others alike) dances. If his dance is smooth and elegant (Nataraja the dance form of Shiva) it is said that the energy confluence of the creation is in perfect harmony and is in a calm state. The ’Tandava Nritya’ (Fast, ferocious dance movement) of Lord Shiva is destructive in nature. He dances in that way to normalize, balance the disrupted energy in creation. Worship and act of worshipping is always in a state of calmness, it is similar to a person working with an unwavering mind. Whatever the place of worship, we see a different environment which engulfs whoever enters the place of worship. This is the purest and subtlest form of energy. All the body cells are in perfect harmony. The aura of the person if measured in place of worship shows a perfect smooth emission of the same color.

I want to mention here out of numerous personalities in India, two vibrant personalities who empowered the common men of the country. One is Swami Vivekananda and the other Shri Basaveshwara. Swami Vivekananda is from West Bengal. Shri Basaveshwara is from my home state Karnataka in India. I am mentioning these two famous personalities since my subject here is work and worship.

Swami Vivekananda.

SSwami Vivekananda; foremost proponent of work is worship

There are a plethora of books on Swami vivekananda. A dynamic personality; close disciple of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. His speech in the USA way back is highly admired even today. He is the exponent of ‘work is worship’. He declared that all irrespective of age should work, work and work. I am mentioning a few of his famous quotes.

“Arise, awake stop not till the goal is reached”

“In a day when you don’t come across problems- you can be sure that you are on the wrong path”

Swami Vivekananda extolled people who worked with a goal.He lived all he said and much more. He died at the age of 39.

Shri Basaveshwara.

Basaveeshwara renowned social reformer and proponent of equality

Basaveshwara is a great social reformer, statesman, philosopher poet in the 12th century. He is the strong proponent of ‘work is worship’. Worship the god through your work. He has tremendous followers even to this day.

Work in relation to worship

Meditation is the ultimate worship. Meditation is silencing the body and mind. I am grateful to my Divine Guru, Shri Krishnanda for teaching me meditation. The form of meditation taught in our meditation is ‘Dhyana Yoga. I welcome you to visit www.lightagemasters.com. The place is very beautiful. Guruji Krishnanda is physically no more but meditators including me have experienced his presence.

Guruji Krishnanda taught Dhyana Yoga to many seekers

Many hidden faculties open up during meditation. The awareness is at its peak. Another word used in meditation is concentration; unwavering mind. Meditation is not just sitting and being silent. A person who is working with full concentration is also said to be in a meditative state. A person who is completely involved in the work she/he doing is in a perfect state of mental balance.

Work is a state of generation of energy in perfect harmony. Worship is a state of mind in complete absorption. Both activities or processes have one thing in common, an unwavering mind. Believe me it is very difficult to experience the unwavering, completely absorptive state of mind. Regular practice makes it possible to progress steadily. Advise and help is most important and it is available in our meditation center.

Energy in inanimate objects.

A particle can be divided into smaller particles. A small particle can be further divided into minute particles. At the end we get the miniature form of the big object. That is the basic cell. Cells consist of protons, neutrons and electrons. I am not going into details of what all a cell consists. I just want to mention that neutrons are neutrally charged, electrons are negatively charged and protons are positively charged. Each cell generates its own energy format. The configuration of each cell is different in different objects. That is what makes an object identifiable. The tiny cell is a miniature representation of the whole object. Energy is the basic form of each cell.

Whether we take an animate or inanimate as an example, all are made up of energy. We live in a pool of energy. Energy is the basis of the universe and what we do is, ultimately generate energy. Every day we deal with energy, we consume energy and we generate energy.
