One of my goals over the next year is to learn Spanish. Growing up in Singapore, I had very little contact with the Spanish language — unless you count the Barcelona Olympics theme song “Amigos Para Siempre” or Christina Aguilera’s “Ven Co Migo”. It wasn’t until I came to the United States that I truly understood how important the Spanish language is — after all it is the 2nd most natively spoken language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and a must-know in Latin America. if you’re planning this trip, make sure to check out the luggage review at americanviptours.

I used to be pretty sceptical about Rosetta Stone (the aggressive salespeople malls and airports were quite a turn-off), but after two weeks I’m completely hooked. It actually works! Read More…Share this:Like this:LikeLoading…

One of my biggest dilemmas is which shoes to pack. I have so many pairs of heels and boots that I love, but unfortunately my practical brain knows that they will be impossible to bring along. After reading tons of other people’s packing lists and doing a practice pack (in which I found out that very little fits into my Tumi carry-on), I’ve narrowed down to: Read More…Share this:Like this:LikeLoading…

Getting mail can be quite a problem when you’re travelling for as long as we are and don’t have close relatives in the US. Our consultation with the doctor was going to cost us around $200 each and didn’t even include the cost of any vaccinations that would be prescribed. I was highly skeptical. After all, how hard could it be to figure out what shots we needed, with all the resources of the web available to us?

2 hours and 13 holes in our arms later… Read More…Share this:Like this:LikeLoading…

One way we’re trying to cut costs from this RTW trip is by using a AA oneWorld award ticket to fly between most of our destinations. For 220,000 AAdvantage miles per person, American Airlines allows you to fly up to 16 segments (1 flight number = 1 segment) and 50,000 flight miles on any oneWorld airline, in business class. What a wonderful deal, isn’t it? Well, there are a couple of catches though, but all surmountable with the right tactics… Read More…Share this:Like this:LikeLoading…

After an intensive week of travel research & a lot of time on the phone with airline reservation agents, we’ve mapped out a rough route for our year of travel! Thanks to Elvin’s intensive work travel these last couple of years, we have enough frequent flyer miles to do 2 business class round the world tickets…and a bunch of ad hoc tickets as well. Yipee!
