But Was Too Frightened To Take It…

The Second Line of Pain Relief — Lord Almighty.

Recently, I wrote about my origin story, and how I was just a normal, average guy, having a lovely early morning cycle, when a sinister van decided to end that experience and crushed me, sending me into the Emergency Room. Some of the injuries that I have continue to flare-up, and my neck has become a sensitive nag.

My neck is like a brittle old man who likes coffee black, but not too black, and not too un-black (so is that.. with milk?), with a third of a teaspoon of sugar, and stirred exactly 12 times counterclockwise. If it doesn’t get exactly that, it whines.

So my neck is currently in whine mode, and the story to attempt to fix it is here. We are a week down the line, and I have worked on myself — using a number of techniques to ‘re-set’ my neck muscles, which are in fight or flight mode.

I’ve also seen a Doctor to fix this — given a prescription of 3 different meds, Co-Codamol, Diazepam and Naproxen — basically the 2nd line of pain relief to fix this.

I want to heal in a natural way. Internally, I’m scared as hell of these options. Diazepam, aka Valium in USA movies (ahhhh, I’ve heard of that) is an incredibly addictive drug — I had so many patients in the ER come in drug seeking, looking for a fix, for this drug specifically. I have thought anyone willing to wait 4 hours to get seen to try and get a fix of this — it must be potent.

It scares me; the thought of being addicted to this.

But I had hit a wall, and now coming home with these meds in my hand, I have to think of what’s best for me.

What’s best for my own healing?

For the next few days, I’m going to seek out some physiotherapy who can help reset my neck and manipulate it into thinking it’s not in “danger-mode.” Also, I’m going to double down on lying on my acupressure mat.

I’m going to use it to help open up the blocked channels in my body to help energy flow. I can literally feel the flow get congested around my neck. It feels stuck, like a ship in a jar.

I’ll have to overcome consistent pain to get through this, but I’ve learned, in recovery, to be super kind to yourself. I think of what I would tell my best friend if they called and told me they were in pain, and then tell myself that.

And I hope to continue to feel better. I’ve just been on it for 15 minutes, during a Sabina Ahmadov meditation and it feels the best it has so far.

Hope. Lives.

I wanted to share this discovery with as many people as I can. So I created Yoke Wellness, an eco-friendly wellness products company, and I modernised the Acupressure Mat (currently in production), to help as many people as I can find their own wellness.
