Apart from the cost factor and on-demand availability, the significant differentiator would be ride quality and customer experience. These would require significant investment in localisation if these car companies were to go global. Car companies would probably need to load these operating assets to separate entity so that these could be funded appropriately. Possibly, someday they may even consider not selling cars anymore. Or there could be some companies that just make cars for on-demand shared economy!
